Naheem Abiodun Balogun, who emerged as the winner of the NDC governorship primary election in Lagos State, is scheduled to appear before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi on Monday, September 14, 2026, to challenge the party’s decision to declare Funsho Doherty its governorship candidate.

According to the results cited by Balogun, he secured more than 6,000 votes across the 20 Local Government Areas of Lagos State, while Funsho Doherty reportedly received slightly more than 5,000 votes from three Local Government Areas.

Balogun is asking the court to determine whether the party acted lawfully in declaring Doherty its candidate despite the results of the primary election.

The case is expected to attract significant attention as the court considers issues relating to the conduct of the primary election and the subsequent declaration of the party’s governorship candidate.
