Attempt By Senators To Decamp From PDP To APC Shot Down

Another attempt by some Nigerian lawmakers to officially defect from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been shot down in the Senate.
At Tuesday’s plenary, a Senator, Bukola Saraki, brought up the issue of a letter written to the Senate
President, David Mark, by 11 Senators expressing their decision to defect.
Senator Saraki said the refusal of the Senate President to read the letter on the floor of the Senate was a breach of the lawmakers’ privilege.
But Senator Mark ruled Senator Saraki out of order, saying that he cannot rule on the matter as the case was in court.

According to other APC Senators, the defecting senators had already started attending the meetings of the APC, which was an indication that they had defected.

The Senators that signed the letter are; Umaru Dahiru from Sokoto South, Magnus Ngei Abe from Rivers South-East, Wilson Asinobi Ake from Rivers  West, Bindawa Muhammed Jibrilla from Adamawa North and Mohammed Danjuma Goje from Gombe Central.

Non-cooperation with Executive: Our Senators did not flout party's directive - APC" - Lai Mohammed

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as quite misleading Tuesday's media reports that its Senators flouted the party's directive to its members in the National Assembly to withdraw co-operation with the Executive until the restoration of law and order in Rivers.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the reports were borne out of the gross misunderstanding of filibustering as a veritable democratic tool to impede legislation by obstructive tactics.

It said that the slant of the reports, that the APC Senators' presence and participation at the screening of the military chiefs on Monday represented a rejection of the directive by them, could not have been farther off the mark, as non-cooperation does not mean non-participation.

''We never directed our members in the National Assembly to boycott the chambers' sessions, whether it is screening of appointees or plenary. What we said is that they should block Executive Bills. In any case, a Senator or an Honourable member can only filibuster when he is in attendance. Fillibuster does not equate to boycott or non-attendance,'' APC said.

The party said it was fully aware that its members in the Senate would attend the screening of the military chiefs, ''just as we are sure they will be part of any debate on the issue, and we have no problems with that. After all they were elected to attend the National Assembly sessions and fully participate in its activities. But their contributions will help swing things one way or the other. That is the crux of the matter''.

APC reiterated the propriety of its directive, which it described as pro-people, democratic and aimed at saving Nigeria from
sliding into anarchy, saying the directive has already succeeded in dousing the tension in Rivers where those who have been subjected to ceaseless harassment by hoodlums aided and abetted by the police can now stage their rallies in peace.

The party also said its directive will not only benefit APC members but indeed all Nigerians as well as national institutions, including the National Assembly itself, which the President has tried to rubbish by totally ignoring its resolutions calling for the redeployment of Rivers Police Commissioner Mbu Joseph Mbu.

''It was the National Assembly that passed the resolutions on the redeployment of Mbu. Members of the PDP, APGA, Labour Party, Accord Party, who are now playing to the gallery just to feather their own nest and place personal interest above national interest, were part of the efforts that culminated in passing the resolutions in both chambers. But the Presidency simply ignored the resolutions, a dangerous trend that will make nonsense of the principle of check and balance in our democratic system and also encourage the President to flout future resolutions.

''In this respect, the National Assembly itself should own and commend our directive, instead of a few exhibitionist legislators rushing to the media to make uninformed comments. As far as we are concerned, we acted rightly in issuing our directive, which is meant to end the impunity in Rivers, save our democracy from descending into anarchy and protect national institutions which are being rubbished and manipulated by the Presidency,'' APC said

Okotie is the Worst Pastor In Nigeria - Emmy Collins

emmy collins

Do you still remember the self-made social and fashion critic, Emmy Collins? Recall that last year, he was always in the news, taking on celebrities in one fight or the other.

Many people waved him off, calling him an attention seeker. But he has picked off where he left off and now, he has expanded the coast of his criticism as he has taken the fight to Nigeria's controversial man of God, Rev. Chris Okotie.

Collins says Okotie is the worst pastor in Nigeria today and that the founder and General Overseer of Household of God Church is not qualified to be called a man of God.
Hear what Emmy Collins had to say:

"This is officially one of the worst Pastors presently in Nigeria. He reckons God spoke to him to contest in the election. Didn’t God promise him that he will win?
"When God directed David to fight Goliath, he ensured that David won because the Lord was with David.

"That his church members believe all these lies that exits this guy’s mouth and that of his ilk is quite worrisome.

"This not a man of God because a man of God would not waste as much money as this chap is wasting while some of his church members are wallowing in abject poverty. This is downright mean."

Confession of A Nigerian Gay

Two venus symbols painted on an activist's head in Johannesburg, May 2013
When President Goodluck Jonathan signed Nigeria’s Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act earlier this month, human rights groups around the world cried outrage. But how do homosexuals in Nigeria feel? A gay activist and health worker who calls himself John shares his thoughts on a law that criminalizes his way of life and his livelihood. This is his story as told to Nicholas Ibekwe.
My name is John. I’m a 29-year-old human rights activist and community health worker from south-eastern Nigeria. Some of my colleagues and friends know I’m gay. I’m not out to my family, but they suspect it.
It’s a great taboo in Igboland to be a homosexual. It’s a serious taboo in the Igbo tradition. It’s seen as aru, an ‘abomination’. It is abnormal for a man to have feelings for another man.
In Igboland, people don’t get married early. My family is not expecting me to start talking about marriage now, but they expect me to have female friends. Maybe because I’m an ex-seminarian, they still see me as a holy person who should have only male friends. I joined the seminary as a young person and I was expelled because people found out I’m gay.
Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act
I felt sad when I heard that the president signed the bill into law. The new law in Nigeria affects everybody, not just the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community.
As a health worker for the most-at-risk population, I work with gay men, female sex workers and intravenous drug users. The new law compelled us to close all our offices because they were seen as a place where a lot of effeminate guys come. The closure means that those once coming for counselling can no longer do so. That includes spiritual counselling for emotional problems, but also physical issues. Like I’m suppose to treat somebody for warts – there’s nobody to treat them. There’s nobody to conduct HIV counselling.  But the new law affects not only those who are HIV-positive. If they are unable to access care, they will transfer their infection to others.
The law says those found guilty of “aiding and abetting” should be imprisoned for five years, so if we continue our work, definitely we are going to be jailed. And now it will also be difficult for us to hang out. This law criminalizes the coming together of gay people or forming gay clubs or associations.
Our peer sessions offering health information and education have halted. If we hold meetings like this, the police will definitely come to arrest us. Even at today’s meeting we have to act neutral. We are holding it an eatery, planning to act like people who have come just to have lunch and have our conversation politely.
Arrested, blackmailed and tortured
As a community leader and the local leader for House of Rainbow Fellowship, I have witnessed a number of threats. A lot of the community members were arrested, blackmailed and tortured within a few days after the bill was signed into law. Yesterday someone was seriously beaten and stripped naked because he was seen as effeminate.
When someone is arrested, they are asked to list other people suspected of being gay. This was already going on before the law was actually signed. Recently, they arrested some gay people in Akwa, Anambra State. They arrested over 30 people at Nneni police station and those arrested paid huge amounts of money to bail themselves out.
But after the bill was signed, they started re-arresting people. They went to my family, but were told I don’t live there anymore. In the north, in Bauchi, we recorded about 38 arrests. In Lagos State, there were similar incidents. In Oyo State, eight persons were arrested. So there is great panic in the community.
A Nigeria where…
People are not calm. The law puts everybody in a total confusion. Community members have gone into hiding, including myself. The new law means I will no longer be free to ask my boyfriend to visit me at home. Because once he comes and we are alone in the house, people will start asking questions.
I love Nigeria. I would love to stay in Nigeria. I would love to raise my child – if we're to have one tomorrow – in Nigeria. I might travel out of the country, maybe on a temporary basis, until the law is repealed because persecution threats are high now. But I don’t take any joy in thinking of leaving the shores of this country, seeking asylum or going to live permanently abroad. I don’t have that in my agenda. I don’t want it.

The only thing I want is a Nigeria where everybody, irrespective of our sexual orientation, is respected. Where our fundamental human rights will be respected. Where I can come home and be very free to live my life because my ancestors came from this place.

Woman Disowns Cat For Being Gay

A middle-aged woman (names withheld) yesterday in Lafia, Nasarawa State, publicly disowned her cat whom she had kept as a pet for seven years for what she termed “an unnatural sexual behavior” which she finds disturbing and “a contradiction of the laws of nature.”

CatBy this, the cat has made a record as the first cat to be so publicly declared gay and disowned by its owner. The cat, named Bull, was alleged to be in the habit of making sexual advances only to other male cats in the house even though there are several other female cats.

Neighbours attested that none of the other cats born while the cat was in the house has it’s due colour, lending credence to the fact that it has not been able to mate with other female cats in its home or anywhere in the environ.

The cat owner who expressed a strong belief in the divine purpose of creating male and female of every creature to fulfil an ordained purpose of procreation said, “anybody interested in this gay cat can have it because I have no further use of it.”

The cat’s renunciation which attracted members of the public was however dramatic as no one wanted to take ownership of such a cat.

After its rejection, many residents of the area have been thronging the house located on Gboko Street, Tudun Gwandara area of Lafia, the state capital to see things for themselves

Joblessness Brought Most of Us To Politics - Jonathan Goodluck

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said that over 50 per cent of the present crops of Nigerian politicians were not supposed to be in politics. He added that politics had become some kind of trade. Jonathan, who spoke at the Aso Villa Chapel, State House, noted that people found themselves in politics because they had no other thing to do. “Politics is just like some kind of trade. More than 50 per cent of us who are into politics are not supposed to be politicians. For example, in the profession of nursing and teaching, people with wicked hearts and unforgiving spirits are not the kind of people who should be nurses or teachers, but we find them there.

“So most of us who are in politics are not supposed to be there but because we have no other thing to do,” the President said. Reacting to the statement by the Chaplain, Ven. Obioma Onwuzurumba, that politicians do not forgive, Jonathan noted that they could not afford not to forgive. According to the President, the Bible even said that politicians were the people who forgive.

The video clip belows shows a deadly wooden bridge located in the modern day Lagos, Nigeria. A country that makes billions of money from Oil and still very poor. What an irony?

"Publicly I Moved The Motion For The Merger of ACN & CPC" - Tunde Bakare

Tunde Bakare is the senior Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, and vice presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) in the 2011 presidential election. In this interview with SEYE OLUMIDE, he bares his mind on why he has been silent since the historic merger of the All Progressives Congress (APC); and why he distanced himself from an arrangement that seems to portray desperation for power.

You have been silent after the completion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) merger, could this be interpreted to mean a stylish disengagement from politics? NO, I can never stop commenting on political issues. When I was very young, I took absolute trust in Egungun masquerade. I was a Muslim then, I wasn’t born a Christian. We have different types of masquerades then, but there is this particular one called Danselewa, it was a small masquerade and it usually goes about begging alms and using sticks to fight and then scared people away. But when the big masquerade (egun agba), that is, the masquerade meant for the older ones comes, it usually comes out once in a year or once in three years, among such bigger masquerades we had the Oloolu and when they speak, the ground shakes.

One cannot be speaking anyhow, there are people who speak because they have something to say and there are those who speak because they have to say something, but that does not take the shine away from those  who are constantly speaking, because if they don’t keep on speaking, they (the politicians) will grind this nation into a hole.

Gay Reverend, Others Relocate to UK

Gay 1

Two weeks ago, it was reported that the activities of Reverend Rowland who was running a gay Church underground in Lagos, Nigeria. The Church called House of Rainbow was situated at No 36/38 Yakoyo Street, Ojodu Berger, Lagos. Reverend Roland sometime ago reportedly appeared on Cable Network News, CNN, where he proudly talked about his Church of gays. The initial reaction about his exposure was that such a Church could not exist within Nigeria as such things are common in abroad.

But an uproar in the Anglican communion in Europe on gay bishops brought up the case of Reverend Rowland, a Nigerian who was residing in Lagos. He was also operating his gay Church in Lagos. In his plot 145 flat 1, Jakande Estate, Isolo, Lagos, where Rev. Rowland Olajide Macaulay, the gay Pastor lived, the apartment was locked. It was learnt that the Reverend left his house on Saturday, September 13, immediately after a national newspaper carried the story of his homosexual Church and ever since, he had not been seen. According to his neighbours, the Sunday service could not hold both at the Jakande Estate branch and the Ojodu headquarters of House of Rainbow Ministries after that publication. Right now, Rev. Rowland has relocated abroad where he is presently running his gay Church,”House Of Rainbow Fellowship”.

Muslim Barred From Marrying Christian Burns To Death

A 21-year-old man, Mansur Tanko, a muslim, on Friday, burnt himself to death in Jalingo, capital of the northern Nigerian state of Taraba, after a disagreement with his father, Tanko Mijinyawa, over marriage.

Tanko, according to an eyewitness, Alhaji Jibrin Bala, set himself ablaze because his family refused to approve his wedding with a girl, Blessing, a Christian. The eyewitness told sympathisers that Tanko introduced Blessing to his father as his proposed wife, but the father kicked against the union, describing it as a bad choice.

Bala said efforts by the father to convince his son to look for another girl failed, as he insisted that he could not survive without Blessing. The eyewitness added that Tanko suddenly left his father and went to a corner in the compound, where he poured petrol on his body and set himself ablaze.
“When we suddenly saw fire, everybody ran toward the corner of the compound, only to see Tanko burning.

“The father and other people in the compound tried to rescue Tanko from the fire, but failed as the flame was much and we could not move near,” he said. Tanko’s father is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, for injuries sustained while trying to rescue the son from the fire. The Taraba Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Kwaji, confirmed the incident and said the Jalingo Division of the police has commenced investigation into the matter.

It says he is weighing possible action, including via the courts. He did not address the alleged affair.
Rumors have long circulated that Hollande might have a lover. The magazine Closer published images Friday showing a bodyguard and a helmeted man it says is Hollande visiting what Closer says is the actress' apartment.

Alleged certificate forgery: St. Paul says Oduah only bagged her first degree from the school not Masters

Authorities of St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, in the United States have cleared the air on the alleged certificate forgery scandal of Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah.

Online news portal, Sahara Reporters had earlier reported that her acclaimed Masters from the said institution was fake. The school authorities had on Thursday confirmed that the embattled Minister only bagged a first degree in Business Administration at the institution in 1982, with a major in Accounting.Confirming the development, St Paul’s registrar, Ms. Helen Jackson, said Ms. Oduah was alumnus of the school. She reiterated however, that the school has never had a postgraduate program as earlier claimed by the Minister.

It would be recalled that Sahara Reporters on Monday night broke the news of Oduah’s fake certificate scandal. The news sparked controversy on the blogosphere.

The Minister who is yet to respond to the allegation as at Tuesday, expunged any mention of St. Paul’s College, the institutions where she initially claimed in citations, on Wikipedia and several personal websites that she earned a Masters Degree from. The Minister has also claimed to have obtained an “honorary Ph.D” from Christian Pacific University in Glendale, California. That claim has equally been found to be false.

The Minister’s claim to an MBA in 1983 also conflicts with the year in which she supposedly served in the National Youth Service Corps. It was observed that the Ministry of Aviation had since disabled her profile page which claimed she had “Bachelors and Masters Degree (in Accounting and Business Administration respectively) in the United States.

The Lord’s Chosen Church and An Abracadabra Resurrection Miracle

VICTORIA OHEARI BLOGThe book of Matthew 24:24 says: “For false christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. 25“Behold, I have told you in advance”.

This Biblical injunction freely and clearly offers an advance warning that many Christians are yet to heed. It warns about the rise of false prophets masquerading as men of god that use God’s name to swindle, deceive and hypnotize the gullible. That was exactly what happened in Umuezii, Nguru Mbaise where the Chosen Church of God prophets embarked on a failed mission to resurrect the dead. This is not the first time the Chosen Church is directly fingered in fake miracles and spiritual hocus-pocus.
A young man, from Umuezii community died in Burkina Faso in November last year under mysterious circumstances. A month after, his sealed body was brought back to Nigeria and was buried the same day in his family compound in Umuezii, Nguru Mbaise, Imo State.
Trouble started when prophets and seers of the Chosen Church of God prophesied that the dead-and-buried young man was still alive (six feet beneath the earth) as his soul has persistently approached them via telephone calls and other spiritual means, requesting immediate exhumation. His elder sister, who is a member of the Chosen Church, communicated this prophecy to the entire family, leading to a family resolution insisting on the “divinely ordered” exhumation.
The decision to exhume the dead body did not go down well with the community as such act was considered an abomination both under the native tradition and under the prevailing Catholic norms deeply established within the community. All entreaties to the family made by the traditional ruler and parish priest of the St. Luke Catholic Church, Umuezii to refrain from such religious charade fell on deaf ears. It got to a point that the deceased family representatives openly accused the church and community leaders of killing their late brother, and preventing his “god-ordained” resurrection.
As a lasting solution to the impasse, the traditional ruler of the community invited the Chosen Church seers and prophets to sign an agreement of performance failing which they will be handed over to the police authorities for prosecution. The second condition was that the miracle will be performed in full public glare and in the presence of other independent witnesses. Proudly beating their chests and boasting deafeningly about their “majestic powers”, the seers and prophets signed the agreement and a date was mutually agreed for the resurrection miracle.
On the appointed day, a horde of prayer warriors, choristers, singers, speaking-in-tongue experts, seers, prophets and the like stormed the village as early as 6 a.m. The traditional ruler also invited the police, radio commentators, reporters and correspondents from local newspapers and the state-owned Imo Broadcasting Corporation. Chosen Church of God seers boastfully started with an early morning prophecy that the dead young man will “resurrect” by 12 noon prompt. The digging up of the grave followed immediately until the body was exhumed.
Then the singing, violent shaking, screaming, cursing, loud yelling and other theatrical displays in the name of deliverance prayers ensued while the large crowd of keen onlookers watched with deep interest. From 6.a.m till 12 noon, there was no sign that the young man was preparing to wake let alone resurrect. Seeing that the 12 noon deadline had passed, the seers quickly issued another prophecy shifting the hour of resurrection to 3.p.m. By this time, the prayer and singing sessions became even more intense and violent. 3 p.m came and went. No sign of life. The Chosen Church prophets again, quickly handed down another prophecy declaring 6.p.m as the divine resurrection hour. 6.p.m also went by, and the dead man remained still, lifeless and unresurrected till this day!
Understandably impatient and angry after the 6p.m deadline, the policemen on standby arrested all the prophets, dancers, singers, clappers and everybody that accompanied them to the community. But before then, the Chosen Church prophets had forwarded messages to their head office requesting for spiritual reinforcement. Undeterred by the arrest of their team members, an additional team that arrived around 6 p.m continued with the prayer sessions even more aggressively and vociferously. They prayed and sang all through the night till the following morning. Still, no sign of resurrection! The police officers, who had then totally run out of patience, arrested the remaining Chosen Church members, and everyone connected to the resurrection miracle including the deceased’s family representatives.
Some of the arrested Chosen Church members are currently on bail, while a lot more are still in custody till date. The dead body was deposited at the morgue at the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, as exhibit, pending further police investigations and prosecution of the false prophets.
I was present at the New Year church service held at St Lukes Catholic Church, Umuezii, Mbaise where the parish priest’s sermon harped on the infiltration of false prophets into the Christendom, warning parishioners to be wary of them. He then invited the members of the deceased family to tender an unreserved apology to the community for the abominable acts they committed. (PICTURED ABOVE) The deceased’s elder sister tendered what seemed like a half-hearted apology on the family’s behalf.
What happened in Imo State is reminiscent of the stories that feature on Nkan ‘Nbe, a popular Yoruba TV Program that features latter-day mystical occurrences. The Imo incident provides a compelling and cogent rationale for the effective regulation of the nefarious activities of churches whose stock in trade is to constitute public nuisance and to deceive and hypnotize the gullible. As a direct result of this incident, some Mbaise communities have proscribed the activities of Pentecostal churches in their localities.
All eyes are on the Imo State Police Command to see how they would handle this issue, and ensure that measures are put in place to deter future sinister activities perpetrated under the banner of religion. Perhaps, its time to ban the churches and their abracadabra miracles. That time is NOW!

The Aide De Camp, ADC, to the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Peter Kishira reportedly slumped and died while pursuing a commercial motorcyclist, popularly known as Okada. The Okada was said to have allegedly obstructed the convoy of his boss.
