
A three-day distribution of the cards by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), commenced last Friday at various polling units when the hoodlums hijacked the items. The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Celestina Kalu, who disclosed the incident on Wednesday, said that about 503 PVCs were last Sunday, snatched from a youth corps member by hoodlums at Units 17 and 18 in Jeremi Ward 2, Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Kalu’s report further stated that the day before, at Unit 6, Erho-Abraka, 144 PVCs meant for distribution were stolen from the distribution officer by unknown people. “Based on the police investigations, three suspects, one Bulless Mrikugbe, Raymond Justus Ese and Josiah Shetode, were promptly arrested. However, the 503 PVCs were later recovered near a garage in Oginibo town.
“Felix Obokan has been arrested and all the 654 PVCs promptly recovered at Ekakpamre. Four people suspected by the distribution officer at Abraka ,have been arrested and are helping the police in investigation, while efforts are on to recover the stolen PVCs at Abraka”, Kalu stated further.
The police boss said investigation was in progress, while all the recovered PVCs had been handed over to the electoral officer for Ughelli South Local Government Area, on bond.”
Meanwhile, no confirmation was made by the PPRO of a related situation at locality,
Similarly, the Nigerian Tribune gathered from a source at Jeremi Police Division, Urhiephron, in Ughelli South, that all stolen PVCs in the community had been recovered and returned to the local INEC office, but that no arrest was made. This was, however, not confirmed by the police spokesperson, DSP Kalu.
